The sweet isn’t as sweet without the sour, and this week is like a warhead with cry baby bubble gum inside. If runpee.com ever extends their coverage to college football schedules, this will be the week they say can be avoided all together. Gameday is headed to the lamest campus for college football so much so that the game at that location is the 9:30pm CDT game on ESPN. Never fear though, we’re here to help you make lemonade out of these lemons; however, you might want to add your own vodka.
Week 6 Pro Tips:
- This past Tuesday was the last day until November 27 that we couldn’t find a college or pro game on TV. Yes, that’s 55 consecutive days of football! While there might not be any marquee matchups this week, we have 17 games with a one possession spread. Even better, there’s one in each time slot with a total over 60. In a weekend where it’s tough to find good games, check these out:
- 11am Pitt (-2.5, 64) @ UNC
- 3pm WVU @ OSU (-3, 64.5)
- 6:45 UCF(-2.5, 61.5) @ UF
- 10pm Tech @ ‘Zona (-6, 63.5)
- With Bama defeating Georgia (for the 9th time in 10 straight games), the Bulldogs’ 42 game win streak was snapped. We now have two teams tied with the longest winning streak in FBS. Those teams are Army and Missouri…..at 8 games. We also have College Gameday visiting Cal-Berkeley for the first time, making them the 82nd campus they’ve visited. There are 6 remaining P4 schools left on the list for Rece and crew: Illinois, Rutgers, SMU, Maryland (c’mon, throw SVP a bone), Syracuse, and Virginia. Excited to see Beast Mode on the set making it rain Skittles as the guest picker – that surely will provide some entertainment. However, we’re guessing he won’t need Wheels Up to get him there.
- If you haven’t stayed up late to watch Ashton Jeanty run the ball for Boise State, you’re in luck this week. They play at 6pm against Utah St. in a game chasing 66.5 points. This kid is leading the country with 217 yards per game, and is currently 4th in the Heisman projections. He’s an absolute bowling ball. Yes, you’ll have to watch on the smurf turf which is awful (especially on the quad box with 3 green fields also on the screen) but the dude hasn’t disappointed yet!
TOS GAME OF THE WEEK
Tech and Arizona 10:00 PM CDT FOX
What we like about this game: Let’s face it, Tucson and Lubbock are such a natural fit for a rivalry they sound like the name of twin boys conceived by a sprint car driver and a barrel racer – different on the surface but so many similarities at their core. The biggest beef right now between the two schools (I swear, this isn’t made up) is arguing over who should be the sole user of the saguaro emoji on twitter. Don’t know what that is? Yeah, neither did we. Apparently it’s what us commoners would refer to as “the cactus”. So not only will this Tumbleweed Tussle decide pivotal standings in the Big 12, it will also give validation to digital ownership of one of the most mid emojis in social media. Let’s go!
What we love about this game: If you weren’t toggling back and forth between late night Arizona and Tech victories last week, I’m not sure we should be friends. So getting these guys together to duel it out feels like the next round of a Big 12 playoff bracket. Call us suckers for patriotism (guilty as charged), but anytime you go late night under the lights for your first conference home game AND you break out sick American themed Military Appreciation uniforms you’re going to get us going! Arizona’s Noah Fifita-Tetairoa McMillan connection is pretty special. The story about how they partnered with 2 other childhood friends to turn around Arizona’s program and then told Jedd Fisch to kick rocks when he tried to take them to Washington with him is an unfortunate rarity in college football these days. Hard not to root for these kids!
