Well it took 5 weeks, but we finally couldn’t avoid it any longer. It’s the first of likely several instances of NIL drama and conference realignment fighting. The good news is when it comes Saturday, everyone will get on the field and try to win a football game – well, maybe not Kansas. We’ve approached the time where some teams are searching for upsets and others are hoping to avoid using an early mulligan. Here’s a great breakdown for where we currently stand with those.
Week 4 Pro Tips:
- Matthew Sluka, the UNLV QB, is going to be a big topic about all that is wrong with college football right now. It’s hard to argue differently when he’s the starting QB for an undefeated mid-major team that’s being discussed as a possibility for the 12 team playoff and he literally walks away over a monetary dispute. What school does he think is looking for a spoiled, attention seeker with a controlling agent to lead their team? Reminds us of another QB that hailed out of Nevada. Maybe Davey Day Trader will give him a shot, they seem like a match made in heaven.
- Kansas football needs its own reality show. They’re building a new stadium this year meaning they don’t have a place for their home games. They’ve played a couple at Children’s Mercy park, the soccer stadium in KC, which seems to be a great venue. Apparently, they also committed to playing others at Arrowhead. A real stretch for a floundering program whose fans care more about basketball. This week is supposed to be the first of those games only they NEVER SECURED A CONTRACT WITH THE CHIEFS. Rest assured all signs are pointing to a game getting played, but who knows at what cost.
- It’s going to be interesting to see which of these storylines is more popular. Obviously, the PAC12 going after teams while claiming the clause in their contract with MWC preventing specifically this from happening means nothing is pretty nuts. However, my assumption is the Travis Hunter for Heisman propaganda will be out in full force. It’s hard to argue the fact that the dude might be the best defensive player in the country and is also arguably a top 5 WR. He’s doing all this while playing double the snaps of everyone else. If it doesn’t hit this week, it will soon.
TOS GAME OF THE WEEK
Georgia (-1) @ Alabama 6:30PM CDT ABC
What we like about this game: Anytime Georgia is “on the road” the jokes just make themselves and the Gameday signs are going to be classic. Make sure to tune in and follow on Twitter for some of the best. In true Alabama-style redneck engineering, they’re already getting a ahead start at taking things to the next level.
What we love about this game: Since 2021, Georgia is 45-2 with its only 2 losses coming from Alabama. Kirby Smart is 1-5 against the Tide and Georgia has lost 8 of their last 9 to them. The big key in this is that Nick Saban has been on the Bama sideline for all of these games. He’ll be there on Saturday, but not wearing a headset. It’s a new era of Bama football and Georgia will be out for revenge. The crowd will play a key role in this pivotal matchup for SEC supremacy as this is the first time since November 2007 (113 games!) that Alabama is an underdog at home. Should be a classic!
