As we hit the homestretch, we’re getting a consistent feed of elimination games, new rankings to debate, and more gasoline on the coaching carousel firings. In true college football fashion we found out about the Hugh Freeze firing via X from an Auburn insider – wait, check that – a burner account that reported on a change in his standing Sunday tee time. Our question is did the tee time change after the school made a decision or was one of the course pros part of this crowd and just made an executive decision? Some additional solid highlights from this weekend include the Oklahoma fan who joined Vol Navy by literally driving his boat from Oklahoma to Tennessee and maybe loaning his board shorts to his team’s kicker, the ultimate team player at Penn State, and a fantastic locker room celebration video from SMU.
Week 11 Pro Tips:
- Dabo continues his disastrous season with a brutal loss to Duke, but at least he followed it up agreeing with us (sort of) that refs need accountability – hello, ref top 25! While no one has followed our advice on those rankings, we did get the next best new rankings for college football. LSU takes these types of things pretty seriously, so keep an eye on them shooting up this board as the season progresses.
- Stop me if you’ve heard this before – old geezers love Notre Dame. There’s a ton of football left to be played, but if the goal was to follow the ESPN propaganda machine they’ve definitely been successful. Side note – it’s absolutely asinine to have any double digit spreads in a playoff, anything over two TDs should be legitimately reconsidered, and anything over 20 points is a complete waste of a football game. G5 has to bring more smoke if they’re going to get a spot. Memphis has a chance to prove it tonight. Too bad the majority of college football fans will miss it thanks to ESPN failing at trying to get Google and their $3.34 trillion market cap to bend the knee.
- If you’re a YouTubeTV subscriber this might be the biggest pro tip we’ve handed out all season. Obviously the Disney debacle is the worst situation a college football fan could be in this time of year; however, the solutions are abundant for those willing to work a little. First, grab a $5 daily membership from Sling and use it to log into the ESPN app because the Sling app blows. Next, get a chat going with YouTubeTV and, if you are persistent, you can get a free month ($82.99 value) for your trouble. It took us close to 45 minutes and an escalation when the original agent would only offer 2 weeks free, but once a supervisor was involved they pretty quickly offered the free month once pressed. That should cover plenty of daily passes from Sling to get you through the rest of the season without giving an extra dime to the Mouse!
TOS GAME OF THE WEEK
#9 Oregon (-6.5) @ Iowa 2:30PM CST, CBS
What we like about this game: The pretty boys from Oregon get to travel two time zones to Iowa City for a classic, rain soaked Big 10 afternoon. Neither of them have played much of a schedule, so this is a big statement opportunity that they both desperately need. Iowa’s even breaking out their “fancy” alternates to compete with the Milan of cfb uniforms.
What we love about this game: We got a classic man vs. the machine with algorithms all over Oregon while the media loves Iowa. On top of that, Kirk Ferentz has handled top 10 teams at home very well in November. Should be a back and forth battle that comes down to the wire. Iowa looks to cover in a low scoring thriller!
Our goal for this year is to continue growing our community, while providing intellectually insightful, err, casually entertaining content at a more consistent clip than the CFP rankings show. We greatly appreciate you
