Heading to Landover, MD for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
HTTR. The Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Redskins, are working their way towards mediocrity after two decades of a perpetually lit dumpster fire. This franchise, established in 1932, has seen its share of glory days, including three Super Bowl victories before Dan Synder destroyed the team and the city’s morale. Transitioning to FedEx Field in 1997, the team sought to build a new era on the outskirts of the nation’s capital, aiming to recapture the magic within a state-of-the-art stadium. However, FedEx Field has had its share of controversies, from criticisms over its location to playing surface to debates about its seating capacity. Outside of a brief Kirk Cousins, “You Like That”, it’s been a rough century for the Commanders.

Gameday

Founded in 1932 and originally hailing from Boston, this team quickly became a cornerstone of the league, with a legacy as colorful and contentious as the game itself. Under the guidance of legendary figures like coach Joe Gibbs and players such as John Riggins and Darrell Green, the team clinched three Super Bowl titles in the ’80s and early ’90s, becoming the toast of the capital. It’s remarkable that Gibbs won each of the three Lombardi’s with a different QB! Equally iconic were the “Hogettes,” a group of die-hard fans who donned dresses and pig snouts in the stands, blending spectacle with spirited support to cheer on their beloved Hogs and the team at large. Football is better when the nation’s capitol is captivated by their team. We’re rooting for a Commanders’ comeback to relevance.

The Stadium

Getting Started

The Team name isn’t the only thing to recently change. FedEx Field just became Commanders Field. It opened in 1997 after the beloved RFK Stadium simply could not compete with the growing trend towards stadiums with expanded seating, luxury suites, and state-of-the-art facilities. Commanders Field is located in Landover, Maryland, accommodating over 91,000 fans.
