Win the Weekend

Heading to Seattle, WA for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
Home of the 12th Man, amirite Aggies? The Seattle Seahawks took flight in 1976, quickly establishing a reputation for formidable defense and passionate fan support that reverberates through the rafters. Their ascent to football glory was punctuated by their first Super Bowl appearance in 2005, and a triumphant Super Bowl XLVIII victory in 2013, a testament to their tenacity and the high-flying offense and “Legion of Boom” defense. Lumen Field, the nest of the Seahawks since 2002, is revered for its raucous atmosphere, often causing seismic activity known as “Beast Quakes” thanks to the thunderous cheers of the crowd. This stadium’s architecture amplifies the roar of the fans, creating an intimidating home-field advantage that’s led to a notable record of false starts for visiting offenses.

Gameday

The Seattle Seahawks quickly captivated the Pacific Northwest with their spirited play and distinctive marine blue and forest green colors. The early years were marked by a rapid ascent, with the team clinching its first playoff berth in 1983 and reaching the AFC Championship game, a remarkable achievement for such a young franchise. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the Seahawks had their ups and downs, but the fanbase remained unwaveringly loyal, with the raucous crowd noise becoming a defining trait of games at the Kingdome. The turn of the millennium saw the Seahawks soar to new heights under the leadership of coach Mike Holmgren, culminating in their first Super Bowl appearance in 2005, although they fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their golden era dawned with the formation of the “Legion of Boom,” a fearsome defensive squad that propelled the team to a dominant Super Bowl victory in 2013 against the Denver Broncos. “Beast Mode” Marshawn Lynch, whose earth-shattering runs galvanized the team and the city, and Pete Carroll, the charismatic head coach whose philosophy and energy revitalized the franchise upon his arrival in 2010. Alongside them, quarterback Russell Wilson emerged as a dynamic leader, his agility and playmaking propelling the Seahawks to consistent success and becoming the face of the team throughout the 2010s.

Getting Started

Lumen Field, previously known as CenturyLink Field, has been the electrifying home of the Seattle Seahawks since its opening in 2002, swiftly becoming infamous for its deafening crowd noise and seismic “Beast Quake” caused by Marshawn Lynch’s iconic touchdown run in the 2011 playoffs. Beyond football, the stadium’s unique design features an expansive use of environmental elements, such as the partial roof that shields fans from Seattle’s notorious rain while amplifying the stadium’s acoustics to legendary levels. Lumen Field stands on sacred sports ground, built where the Kingdome once stood, the original thunderous dome that was home to the Seahawks from 1976 until its implosion in 2000, a historic event that paved the way for the state-of-the-art venue that now shapes Seattle’s skyline.
