Win the Weekend

Heading to Charlottesville, Virginia for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
Set in the heart of beautiful Charlottesville, the University of Virginia combines academic excellence with a rich history and strong Cavalier spirit. Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, UVA is known for its top-notch programs in business, law, and the liberal arts. The stunning grounds, with the iconic Rotunda and historic Lawn, showcase Jefferson’s architectural genius and create an inspiring backdrop for student life. UVA’s basketball team, under the leadership of Coach Tony Bennett, recently clinched an NCAA championship, while the football team ignites the Cavalier pride on game days, filling the air with excitement and energy. When it’s time to unwind, explore the charming downtown area, which boasts a lively food scene, local breweries, and the famous Corner, a popular student hangout spot. Go crazy with the Wahoos.

Gameday

The UVA Cavaliers, kicking off their gridiron legacy in 1888, have enjoyed moments of brilliance on the football field. Though their journey has seen fluctuating fortunes, the team has clinched numerous ACC Coastal Division titles and has made its mark in several bowl games. Cavalier legends, like the Barber twins (Tiki and Ronde) and Chris Long, have gone on to shine in the NFL, elevating UVA’s football profile. One of college football’s oldest rivalries, the annual clash between UVA and Virginia Tech, known as the Commonwealth Cup, ignites passionate debates, bragging rights, and immense pride across the state of Virginia.

Tailgate Traditions

Tailgating 101

The picturesque landscape of Charlottesville provides a stunning backdrop for Cavalier fans, who set up lavish spreads across the expansive grounds of the university. Tailgating at UVA is more than just pre-game festivities; it's an elegant affair. Think sundresses, bow ties, curated cocktails, and spirited conversations under canopies of orange and blue, all culminating in a collective march to Scott Stadium to rally behind the 'Hoos.

The Stadium

Stadium History

Scott Stadium, with its majestic backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, has been the sanctum of UVA football since 1931. Named after University Rector Frederic William Scott and his wife Elisabeth Strother Scott, it’s a venue that beautifully marries history with modernity. Over the decades, the stadium has undergone numerous renovations, expanding its capacity and enhancing fan experience. The iconic hill in the north end zone is where fans get a unique vantage point, often resulting in a sea of orange and blue blanketing the area.
