Win the Weekend

Heading to Columbus, Ohio for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
It’s time to dive into the heart of Columbus, Ohio, home to The Ohio State University, a sprawling campus of scarlet and gray since 1870. The historic Oval, a favorite gathering spot for students, is surrounded by architectural gems like the Thompson Library and University Hall. You can’t miss the William Oxley Thompson statue, a popular photo op and meeting spot for students and alumni alike. When it comes to painting the town scarlet, you’re gonna want to hit up the High Street. This vibrant thoroughfare is packed with bars and restaurants that buzz with energy, especially when the Buckeyes are playing.

Gameday

The history of Ohio State football is as rich as it gets. Since the program was established in 1890, it’s been a juggernaut on the national stage, especially under the leadership of coaches like Woody Hayes and Urban Meyer. They’ve racked up eight national championships and counting, with an intense rivalry against the Michigan Wolverines that adds an extra spice to the season. The team’s recent success under Ryan Day has shown that the Buckeyes have no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

The Stadium

Stadium History

The Horseshoe, or Ohio Stadium, is the epicenter of Buckeye Nation. Since it opened in 1922, it has been the setting for countless unforgettable moments, including the ’72 “Game of the Century” against Michigan that solidified its legendary status. “The Shoe” is also known for hosting one of the largest marching band formations, the “Script Ohio.” Recent renovations have bumped the seating capacity to over 100,000, making it one of the largest stadiums in college football. When the Buckeyes are on the field and the crowd roars “O-H-I-O,” the electric atmosphere at the Horseshoe is nothing short of magical.
