Win the Weekend

Heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
The University of North Carolina is the pride of Chapel Hill, where Southern charm meets academic excellence. Founded in 1789, UNC boasts a rich history as the nation’s first public university. With a reputation for top-tier programs in business, journalism, and medicine, this Tar Heel territory is where brains and ballers unite. After all, the legendary Michael Jordan honed his skills here. So, grab your Carolina blue gear and join the throngs of fans cheering “Go Heels” as you immerse yourself in a university steeped in both tradition and innovation. Franklin Street is the historic heart of Chapel Hill, lined with age-old trees, local boutiques, and bars that become a sea of Carolina blue on game days or during other significant university events.

Gameday

UNC’s football story began in 1888, and while they’re more famously known for their basketball program, Tar Heel football has its moments under the southern sun. Notable figures like Lawrence Taylor and Julius Peppers kicked off their legendary careers here. The 1940s, under the guidance of Coach Carl Snavely, were a golden era for the Tar Heels, with a few top-10 finishes. Mack Brown is doing his best to build this football team back into a perennial Top 25 Team, but it’s a slug in the ACC.

Picture magnolia trees, Carolina blue tents, and the aroma of classic southern fare filling the air around Kenan Memorial Stadium.

The Stadium

Stadium History

Kenan Memorial Stadium has been the battlefield for the Tar Heels since 1927. Enveloped by pine trees, the stadium’s setting is as picturesque as it gets in college football. Over its nearly century-long history, Kenan has seen multiple expansions and renovations, but the essence of Tar Heel spirit remains untouched.
