Win the Weekend

Heading to Tallahassee, Florida for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
Nestled in the vibrant city of Tallahassee, Florida’s capital, Florida State University combines academic excellence, rich history, and spirited Seminoles pride. Established in 1851, the university is renowned for its strong programs in arts and sciences, business, and criminology. Over its storied history, FSU evolved from a seminary to a women’s college and eventually a co-ed institution. The picturesque campus, with its iconic Westcott Building and sprawling Landis Green, provides an inspiring backdrop for student life. The Florida State Seminoles’ football and basketball teams ignite school spirit, energizing the city with their athletic prowess. Tallahassee itself offers a unique blend of southern charm and modern amenities, including its rich historical heritage, lush parks, and thriving arts scene. As the state capital, Tallahassee is a hub of political activity and boasts the impressive Florida State Capitol building. When it’s time to unwind, head to the lively College Town district, where you’ll find an array of student hangouts, popular eateries, and entertainment venues.

Gameday

With roots going back to 1902, FSU football evolved into a national powerhouse primarily during the late 20th century. Under the guidance of legendary coach Bobby Bowden from 1976 to 2009, the Seminoles became a perennial contender, claiming national championships in 1993 and 1999. The Jimbo Fisher era (2010-2017) marked another pinnacle for the Seminoles. Under Fisher, FSU experienced a resurgence in dominance, most notably with Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston leading the team to an undefeated season, capturing the BCS National Championship in 2013, and crab legs from Publix.

The Stadium

Stadium History

Doak S. Campbell Stadium, often simply called “Doak,” has been the bastion of Seminole football since 1950. With its distinct brick facade and the intimidating “Unconquered” statue of Osceola and Renegade at its entrance, it’s a stadium that oozes character. Over the years, it has witnessed some of the most thrilling moments in college football, including the iconic “Puntrooskie” play against Clemson in 1988. Holding over 79,000 roaring fans, the ambiance on game days is electrifying. The recent renovations have made it even more of a modern marvel while retaining its historic charm.
