Heading to East Lansing, Michigan for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
East Lansing, home of the Spartans and Michigan State University! Born in 1855, Michigan State has grown from a small agricultural college to a world-class institution, boasting over 200 programs of study. Campus landmarks like the Beaumont Tower, a carillon that stands as a symbol of MSU tradition, only add to the aura of this historic institution. As for nightlife, don’t get it twisted — East Lansing can party with the best of ’em. The stretch along Grand River Avenue, packed with bars and restaurants, keeps the party going long after the Spartan victory. When it comes to tailgating, MSU fans turn the area around Spartan Stadium into a green-and-white wonderland.

Gameday

The program has seen periods of great success since its establishment in 1896, especially under the guidance of coaches like Clarence “Biggie” Munn and Duffy Daugherty in the 1950s and 1960s, who brought home six national championships between ’em. Nick Saban had a cup of coffee here, helping to restart the program’s winning ways from 1995-1999. More recently, Mark Dantonio made Spartan football a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten, taking the team to the College Football Playoff in 2015.

The Stadium

Stadium History

The Spartan’s battlefield, known as Spartan Stadium, has been the setting of unforgettable drama since it opened in 1923. From the “Game of the Century” in ’66, a tie against Notre Dame that’s still debated today, to the “Little Giants” fake field goal to beat Notre Dame in 2010.
