The Stadium

Stadium History

Built in 1923 to honor Illinois students who lost their lives during World War I, Memorial Stadium has been a symbol of the University of Illinois’s Fighting Illini pride for nearly a century. The stadium underwent a significant renovation in 2008, adding modern amenities while preserving its historical character. It has been the site of many memorable moments, including the famous “Red Grange Game” in 1924, when Illini legend Red Grange scored four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes against Michigan, establishing his place in college football history.
