Established in 1890, the university is renowned for its strong programs in meteorology, petroleum engineering, and health sciences with ties to Native American culture, honoring the tribal nations on whose land the university stands. The picturesque campus, with its iconic Bizzell Memorial Library and beautiful South Oval, provides an inspiring backdrop for student life. Gameday

Attending an Oklahoma Sooners football game in is an experience like no other. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer to the sport, there’s something about the energy, the passion, and the excitement that permeates the air in Norman, OK that’s impossible to replicate anywhere else. Legendary doesn’t even begin to cover it. Founded in 1895, the program boasts seven national championships and a slew of Big 12 conference titles. With iconic figures like head coach Bud Wilkinson and Big Game Bob along enough Heismans to fill a trophy case.

Ticketing 101

Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium used to provide fairly accommodating seats to their visitors prior to completing the lower bowl. There’s no way around this one now, the visitor’s section is awful. Family of away teams and additional visiting fans (likely those with deep pockets) are usually granted a small sliver of seats near the field. Most visiting fans are stuffed in the corners of the east side upper deck. You’ll be left baking in the sun and looking down at the fireworks after touchdowns.

Tickets are most easily found online, but it is typical to see people selling outside the stadium. OU has really emphasized digital tickets, so we recommend securing tickets prior to setting course to the stadium

Because the stadium is on campus, tailgating happens all over the place. Fraternity houses host alumni with catered meals and cash bars. Visiting alumni are welcome at these events. Most tailgates you’ll see along the way are private; however, Oklahoma hospitality is still known to be on display. Majority of fans will take care of their game preparation at campus corner. Several restaurants and bars bring staff outside to sell ice cold beer and seltzers. You’ll be able to listen to the local radio pre-game show, find plenty of OU memorabilia and apparel, grab and easy bite to eat, and never go thirsty. It’s a street party of college football fans.

the cathedral of Sooner football: The Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Built in 1925, this historic venue has seen renovations and expansions but retains its old-school football charm. From “The Game of the Century” against Nebraska in 1971 to the epic comeback against Baylor in 2019, the stadium has hosted some of the most thrilling games in college football history.

The concourse is connected all the way around, so if you get lost just keep going and you’re bound to end up in the right spot. There are plenty of food options but all fairly standard. Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A, BBQ, etc.

What to Watch For

If you’ve been around college football, you’ve likely heard Boomer Sooner. The Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band is a huge part of OU football games, and they’ll have Boomer Sooner stuck in your head for days after the game. While it can be annoying, it’s also catchy. Prepare accordingly.
• After every Sooner score the historic Sooner Schooner will come on the field being led by Shetland Ponies Boomer and Sooner and driven by the OU Roughnecks

•There’s only 1 Oklahoma
•Tossing opposing teams ball out of north end of stadium
•Despite the administrations best efforts, the Sooner faithful still unabashedly end the National Anthem with “home of the SOONERS” at every home football game.
