We’ve reached the doldrums of the season, but we’ll never complain about a full day of college football. While the litany of marquee matchups have taken a tumble, we still get a top 5 showdown to start the day, some solid potential crazy upsets from Michigan and Florida in the middle of the day and three prime time games with point totals over 60. Let’s have a day!
Week 9 Pro Tips:
- While we avoided another game disruption like we saw in the Texas-Georgia game, things still got a little unhinged in Texas again last week. While they’re hilarious to read about, it probably shows why schools were so reluctant to sell alcohol in stadiums for so long. The good news is revenue needed for NIL will likely keep the brews flowing as long as we don’t screw it up too bad.
- Teams get their last opportunity to show out before the first CFP rankings get released on Tuesday. Expect statements to be made and overs to hit as coaches look to get their teams listed on the first iteration of the 12 team bracket.
- Shockingly, we made it 9 weeks before the first complaint about helmet communications getting hacked. It appears this has been squashed, however, assuming at least in some locations this is likely being run by volunteer college students, there’s 0% chance it’s facilitated perfectly everywhere. It’s only a matter of time until this comes up again.
TOS GAME OF THE WEEK
#4 Ohio State (-3) at #3 Penn State 11:00 CDT FOX
What we like about this game: If you’re not familiar with Barstool Tate, aka Ohio’s Tate, you’ll enjoy that there’s more on the line here than just a Big 10 championship appearance and playoff seeding. As a diehard Buckeye fan, Tate throughout some outlandish guarantees at the start of the season and credit to him because so far he’s held up his end of the bargain. This week has him pretty nervous and will add an extra wrinkle to consider in the back of your mind while watching this game.
What we love don’t like about this game: Usually this is where we would double down on why this game is going to be great, but not this week. It’s an absolute crime against humanity that this game isn’t a primetime white out game in Happy Valley. I understand that sometimes there is a big SEC matchup at night and Fox is worried about being overshadowed, but that’s absolutely not the case this week. Our network evening slate is TAMU @ S. Carolina on ABC and Wisconsin @ Iowa on NBC and Fox chose to rival that with ASU @ Ok. State. Fox is sucking the fun out of college football with their Big Noon bull shit!
