Win the Weekend

Heading to Nashville, TN for a gameday? Dive into our breakdown of what you should do for your upcoming trip.
Titan up! The Tennessee Titans began their journey as the Houston Oilers in 1960, carving out a legacy that would eventually find a new home in the heart of Nashville. In 1997, the franchise made the monumental decision to relocate to Tennessee, marking the end of an era in Houston (screw Bud Adams). Initially playing as the Tennessee Oilers, the team underwent a rebranding in 1999, emerging as the Titans. The move to Tennessee was highlighted by an immediate impact on the field, with the Titans reaching the Super Bowl in the 1999 season, a fairy-tale run led by Air McNair.

Gameday

From their inception in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, one of the original members of the American Football League (AFL), the franchise’s journey is steeped in the rich oil culture of Texas, symbolized by the iconic oil derrick logo. The Oilers not only captured the first two AFL titles but also laid the groundwork for the modern passing game, featuring Hall of Famers like Earl Campbell and Warren Moon. Apparently, Bud Adams was too good for the real OG, the Astrodome, and relocated the team to Tennessee in 1997. The Titans, with stars like quarterback Steve McNair and running back Eddie George, became a symbol of hard-nosed football, culminating in the unforgettable “Music City Miracle” during the 1999 playoffs, a play that remains etched in NFL folklore.

Getting Started

Nissan Stadium, nestled on the east bank of the Cumberland River, has been the Tennessee Titans’ stronghold since 1999, offering fans a picturesque skyline of downtown Nashville as a backdrop to the gridiron clashes within. Its opening season was marked by the Titans’ unforgettable run to Super Bowl XXXIV, etching the stadium into NFL history as the site where the “Music City Miracle” took place — a miraculous playoff game-winning kick return that’s replayed in the minds of Titans fans like a country record.
