Gameday

The Denver Broncos were established in 1960 as one of the original franchises of the American Football League (AFL) before joining the NFL in the 1970 merger. Initially struggling to find success, the franchise turned a corner in the 1970s with the emergence of the “Orange Crush” defense, which led the team to its first Super Bowl appearance in 1977. The 1980s and 1990s were dominated by the legendary John Elway, who led the team to back-to-back Super Bowl victories in 1997 and 1998. The Broncos added a third Super Bowl title in 2015, thanks to a dominant defense and the leadership of Peyton Manning. Playing their home games at the iconic Mile High Stadium until 2000, the team moved to the state-of-the-art Empower Field at Mile High in 2001, where they continue to build their storied legacy.

The stadium’s architecture blends modern design with the rugged charm of the Rockies, offering an unparalleled game-day atmosphere. The altitude, combined with the electrifying energy of Broncos fans, creates a unique home-field advantage that’s notorious throughout the NFL. Empower Field has been the stage for numerous historic moments, such as the “Mile High Miracle” in 2012, where Tim Tebow threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. Another unforgettable play occurred in 2015 when the Broncos’ defense, known as the “No Fly Zone,” dominated the Green Bay Packers, helping to pave the way to their Super Bowl 50 victory. Before moving to Empower Field, the Broncos played at the iconic Mile High Stadium from 1960 to 2000, which was located less than 50 feet from the site of the original Mile High Stadium.
